Clear aligners are made from a thin, durable material that is custom-made for your teeth. They fit snugly and comfortably over your teeth and use gentle pressure to move your teeth into the correct alignment for a perfect smile.
Clear aligners straighten teeth by creating pressure on the teeth which moves them closer to their desired position. They apply this pressure by pressing against specific parts of the tooth, and this causes it to migrate in the desired direction. For example, when you want to move a tooth forward, the clear aligner will squeeze the back of that tooth and push from behind, causing it to move forward.
Clear aligners can shift teeth in all three planes of space (all directions). They can adjust the teeth by tipping them into a better position, moving them in or out as needed, and rotating them as needed. Different parts of the aligner must apply force to different locations of the tooth’s root to achieve these movements.
It’s vital to keep in mind that clear aligners aren’t worn all the time. The average recommended wearing time per day is 22 hours.
